The timelapse i did during the panto build. Pretty pleased with it. Its good to show the work that goes into making the set.
Strike. The strike for panto. Was a bit hectic but great fun smashing everything up. We only had a day for it and that included getting the traps out and covered again. the only bad thing was when I fell out with the circular saw but I was getting tired and had been using it all day. The video is of the demon cave being carefully taken apart.
A few pictures from the dress rehearsal with everything finished and working (apart from the eyes in the demon cave but that was not my dept).
The demon cave.
Like everything i post, its almost done just needs the paint and head put on it. We were a bit worried about the wings opening and not being able to support themselves but with some clever thinking and extra supports we stiffened them. Its pretty big and I will post a pic of it on the stage, but as it is it fills pretty much the entire width of the proscenium arch.
Neon paint being added to the pyramid. Looks pretty cool. I didn’t know it was getting done so was a nice surprise.
The very near finished pyramid. I may have missed a few pictures of the construction up to now but its looking pretty dam good. All that is left to do is to stand up add the front door and gauze the back and sides. I’m really happy with how it looks and has fitted together. A few of the joins could have been a bit neater, but as it’s my first major build I’m pretty happy. There could be an issue with the way the batons open at the middle back but there isn’t much we can do in the time left so we will have to wait and see.
The finished doorway for the pyramid. Really quite please how this turned out, especially the parts in the top corners. Was good experience getting to work with foam as well as wood for the 3D parts to it. Now I just need the door for it and see it fit together.
Here is the start of the Pyramid for the Aladdin Panto. Its a pretty big piece and is 3D. At 6m long and about 6m high its definitely not small. I’m having to build it to be light but at the same time as strong as possible which isn’t too easy but, its coming together quite nicely. So far there has been no mishaps and am pretty pleased with myself so far. However I’m only half way so could get tricky.
Dragon roof Palace
Another flat for the Aladdin panto. Was a while in the making, but only because i was needed to help on other shows. Anyway its a pretty simple one. Two parts pin hinged together and braced at the back. I was a bit worried about the dragons on the top breaking but I doubled up the thickness and it was enough to strengthen it.
